Signs It Is Time for a New Lawnmower

Life tends to be much easier when you are ready for what is ahead. That’s why when it comes to lawnmowers, life is much easier when you know it’s time for yours to be fixed or get a new one. So what are the signs that it is time for a new lawnmower? Ahead are four signs that it’s time to get a new lawnmower before it’s too late.

You hear a knocking sound

If your engine is knocking, it’s probably time to start shopping. Generally, this means that your lawnmower has a bent crankshaft or a broken rod. While this can be repaired, this repair can cost you as much as a new lawnmower. The leading cause of a knocking sound coming from your lawnmower could be from your mower running without oil. Make sure you are always checking oil levels before each mow.

Smoke is coming out of your exhaust

Smoke coming from your exhaust in some cases can be repaired by replacing a head gasket, which usually isn’t too expensive. However, in other cases, the rings may be worn out, causing your engine to use too much gas and scoring your cylinder. This can be caused by your air filter not being cleaned regularly or your rings being worn out. Regardless, it might be time for another engine, and at that point, you should be looking for a new lawnmower.

Engine issues

If your engine is out for the count, it’s time for a new lawnmower. A new engine for a riding mower costs as much as the mower itself. But how can you know that you’ve got engine issues before it gets there? If it feels like your engine might be vibrating too heavily, you’ve got an issue. This is another sign that you could have a bent crankshaft or a broken rod. If it makes sputtering sounds, it is difficult to start, is consuming too much oil and gas, the lawnmower is no longer effective on grass, or there is a screeching sound when you start up your mower, it is time to bring it in and get it checked out.

Your deck is rusted out

Externally, if you have a rusted deck, you’ve lost most of your support and are running the risk of your blades coming off while mowing, among other things. In some cases, the mowing deck on your lawnmower can be the most expensive part of the lawnmower, so this can mean it’s time to find a new lawnmower.
